Artist's Comments

So, I've gotten pretty frustrated with artists posting tutorials on how they paint something using painter or similar programs, but they never seem to include the brush they use or what settings, so I'm doing the opposite.
These are the basic settings I use when I'm using the "artist oils" and I absolutely love the results I've been getting with them.

For this picture, I used only the artist oils brush to paint.

The only thing I ever really adjust while painting is the opacity level, mostly when blending hair or when the type of shading changes (like from skin to clothes). Everything else stays the same for me (though, I suggest messing with them yourself to find out what they do and how things work best for you)

For undersketches and basic under colors I change the "dab type" to "circular". I don't change any settings other than the brush itself when going back and forth between the two. (Circular is a very good all purpose brush that can be used to get much different effects. I used it on this picture primarily for the faces and hair:
[link] As a note, circular is also very good for lineart with the opacity level set around 40-50%)

Hopefully this helps a bit for anyone who wants to use painter more - if not let me know what I could do to help or make this better and I will do what I can. :)
